World Idol

Will Young flies the flag for the UK in this international version of Pop Idol, in which the winners of similar shows all across the world compete for the ultimate prize. Hosted by Ant and Dec in London, this first of two shows sees all 11 singers performing live before an international jury : including Simon Cowell and Pete Waterman from Pop Idol UK : before the voting lines are opened to the public. Of course, each country can't vote for their own singer, so if UK viewers are feeling generous, they can plump for American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, Norway's Kurt Nilsen, Canada's Ryan Malcolm, South Africa's Heinz Winckler, or contestants from Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, the Lebanon, Belgium and Australia. Or they could just refuse to pick up the phone and hope the other countries vote for Will. Either way, the result will be announced in a second show to be shown on New Year's Day
