Drama set in Baltimore telling the story of a single drugs-and-murder police investigation from the points of view of the law and their targets. When the nephew of gang leader Avon Barksdale beats a murder charge, homicide detective Jimmy McNulty talks to the judge about a number of murders he links to the defendant's uncle. The information is passed to the officer's superiors and a detail is grudgingly formed, with the lieutenant in command told to wrap the case up quickly. Starring Dominic West.
