Samad's family life deteriorates as his sons Magid and Millat succumb to Western influences, his wife forces him to sleep in the attic, and his job proves less than satisfactory. An outlet for stress arrives in the form of Poppy Burt-Jones, his sons' teacher, who has a passion for all things Eastern : including the frustrated waiter himself.
