The Spalls embark on the final leg of their journey around Britain's coastline aboard the Princess Matilda, beginning at Shotley Marina in Suffolk. They then sail through the Walton Backwaters and out into the North Sea, before heading to Brightlingsea in Essex. They pick up friends including actress Frances Barber for the next part of the journey, which involves travelling to Chatham in Kent - but a night-time navigation of the River Medway sees them run into serious difficulties, and a panicked Tim is forced to contemplate calling the coastguard
