As Jack is let off the hook by police investigating Janet's death, he struggles to understand Doug's grisly hoax, prompting him to suspect the man must be the real killer - and that he murdered Lilian Stokes too. He breaks into the photographic lab in search of evidence, but is caught and banned from living in Hadleigh Corner. With his father an invalid, Kay barely speaking to him and files mysteriously disappearing at work, he takes refuge in the arms of Andrea and they begin to plan their future together.
