• Season 25 Episode 6: The Knife Trick

  Lecturer Alastair Matheson is stabbed to death in front of 30 fledgling police officers during a knife demonstration. At first it seems no more than a fatal accident in a training exercise, but when Matt, Robbie and Jackie discover that the weapon was tampered with, they find themselves faced with a murder inquiry in an all too familiar environment.   The body of a private investigator is discovered at the bottom of a local quarry. • Season 24 Episode 5: A Study in Murder

  A college principal is crushed to death in a lift whose mechanism had been doctored, and when it transpires he had been having an affair, suspicion immediately falls on his widow. However, Ross soon has reason to suspect the man's deputy and sets about proving his guilt, although what proves to be a tricky case isn't made any easier by Fraser, whose attempts to track down his biological mother prompt him to take his eye off the ball

  Burke promises to help an old flame working for a politician in trouble for accepting funds for his campaign from an underworld figure. His investigation into the criminal leads him to a shady escort agency, but both the case and his personal reputation are put on the line when he is caught on camera leaving the building after it is raided by vice officers.   Reid and Ross investigate the discovery of a mutilated body on a remote island, but find the locals strangely uncommunicative and struggle to make headway.   A medical researcher accuses a rival doctor of attacking him with a syringe full of lethal drugs, but when he is later found murdered, the bitter feud between the two medics turns out to be just the tip of the iceberg for DCI Burke and the team. Both men have many enemies, especially after their drug trials resulted in a woman's death, and affairs of the heart muddy the water for the detectives in their search for the real killer.
