Stuart - A Life Backwards

Adaptation of Alexander Masters' acclaimed biography of a homeless alcoholic, with whom he struck up an unlikely friendship. As the writer learns about Stuart's life and painful childhood he asks to tell his story, and the troubled man consents, but suggests he recount it backwards. Alexander is given a glimpse into an alien world and the two very different men develop a strong camaraderie as details emerge about his subject's violent past, which is littered with robberies, suicide attempts and prison sentences.
