The staff of Papworth Hospital attempt to help a man whose violent night-time outbursts have previously led to him sustaining three broken ribs and a cut head. The 70-year-old's sleep condition has resisted six different courses of treatment so Dr Shneerson contemplates administering a drug which has never been used in Britain before
