Part one of three. Richard E Grant and Martin Shaw star in the period drama based on the books by Baroness Orczy. As the French Revolution reaches its frenzied climax, the authorities are plagued by a mystery man who rescues aristocrats from under their noses. On a quest to discover the elusive hero's identity, the head of the secret police travels to England, where he encounters his former lover.
