Synopsis:
The Moderator elect of the Church of Scotland and a female companion are found naked in a car with their throats cut, but the church closes ranks as Rebus investigates the background to the case, uncovering long-buried rivalries, lies and grudges within the institution. Meanwhile, a retired police colleague in the early stages of dementia claims he is being poisoned by staff at his nursing home.
