Jane Austen remains one of the greatest writers of all time, with her novels continuing to entrance readers almost 200 years after her death. This documentary explores the woman behind the scribe, shattering any myths that she lived the elegant Regency life of financially comfortable heroines who eventually find true love. Filmed in many of the locations most associated with Austen, the programme uses clips from TV adaptations of her work, readings and dramatic reconstructions : starring actress Gillian Kearney as the writer : to paint a vivid picture of one of the greatest talents in English literature.
