Proms on Four Prom 50 - Berlioz and Elgar

Prom 50 - Berlioz and Elgar

Charles Hazlewood presents from the Royal Albert Hall as Colin Davies conducts the London Symphony Orchestra. The programme includes music inspired by periods of political torment, beginning with Berlioz's overture Les francs-juges, recalling the plight of activists in medieval times. Also featured are James Macmillan's The Confessions Of Isobel Gowdie, a requiem for a woman caught up in the witch-hunts of Edwardian Britain, and Elgar's Symphony No 2 - a work written amid the international tension before World War One
