An American businessman fears his life is in danger while travelling on the Orient Express from Istanbul to Paris, and offers fellow passenger Poirot $10,000 for protection. After rejecting the proposal, the sleuth wakes up the following morning to learn the man has been stabbed to death while the train was held up by heavy snow in Serbia.
