Synopsis:

A three-part adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel about the adventures of an orphan boy who falls in with a gang of child pickpockets in Victorian London. The first episode concentrates on events leading up to the tragic circumstances of Oliver's birth, as his mother flees from the ruthless widow of her dead lover, eventually seeking refuge at a workhouse in a seaside town. Scripted by Alan Bleasdale, with a star-studded cast including Julie Walters, Michael Kitchen and Lindsay Duncan
