Not Forgotten: Shot at Dawn

Last August, 306 soldiers executed for cowardice or desertion during World War One were pardoned by the British Government. Ian Hislop explores this highly emotive issue, considering whether some of the men really are deserving of a pardon - in view of the strict military law of the time. He recounts the stories of six executed soldiers, talks to campaigning relatives, recounts the story of one private who was told he was to be shot just 45 minutes before and meets a family who did not know an executed relative had even existed
