Synopsis:
The badly beaten body of 18-year-old clerk Sylvia Kane is found in a pub car park by her boyfriend John Sanders. Called in to investigate, Morse finds a coded letter in her bag and sets about trying to decipher it, gradually unravelling a sorry saga of passion and corruption at the insurance office where she worked.
