Part one of an adaptation of the classic detective novel by Wilkie Collins. A beautiful Yorkshire heiress receives a priceless diamond for her 18th birthday which turns out to be a sacred stone, stolen from an Indian shrine by her wicked uncle. When a murder is committed Sergeant Cuff begins unraveling the tangled history of the family and the mysterious gem : which seems to have brought a curse on the household.
