Ken Stott returns as fiery DCI Red Metcalfe in the first of a two-part psychological crime drama. An inquiry into prison brutality, led by DS Kate Beauchamp, takes a terrifying turn when she becomes embroiled in a violent hostage situation. Events quickly spiral out of control and a series of grisly murders ensues, but the killer always seems to be one step ahead of Red - leaving the tenacious detective clutching at straws.
