The Glasgow side saw off Blackburn Rovers in the second round, and booked their place in the last-eight with a 5-4 aggregate win over the Bundesliga's VFB Stuttgart. Liverpool, meanwhile, were somewhat flattered by the 3-0 scoreline of their fourth-round victory over French side Auxerre : and will need to pull out all the stops if they are to make sure the tie is not over as a contest before the return leg at Anfield on March 20.
