Lewis: Season 3

• Season 3 Episode 4: Counter Culture Blues

  The detective discovers his favourite Seventies band is on the verge of a comeback - along with their iconic singer, Esme Ford, who has made a shocking reappearance from beyond the grave, having faked her own death 35 years earlier. But when a young orphan is found dead on the other side of town, a forensic link leads Lewis and Hathaway to suspect the aged rockers are somehow involved. • Season 3 Episode 3: The Point of Vanishing

  Religious fanatic Steven Mullan is found beaten and drowned in his bath. Lewis and Hathaway discover he had been imprisoned for trying to kill well-known atheist Tom Rattenbury and had only recently been released. The inspector soon has reason to believe the Rattenbury family is hiding something from him - but nothing prepares him for the evidence Dr Hobson uncovers at the post-mortem. • Season 3 Episode 2: The Quality of Mercy

  A student production of The Merchant of Venice is brought to an abrupt halt when the actor playing Shylock is murdered halfway through the performance, a prop knife plunged into his chest. Lewis and Hathaway are struck by the lack of grief among the cast and crew - especially the fiercely ambitious director Emma Golding, who wastes no time re-casting the lead role, determined the show must go on. The detectives soon discover the victim had an expensive lifestyle and not only owed money to his fellow students but was also suspected of stealing from them.   New series of the crime drama, starring Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox. A barmaid's murder leads Lewis and Hathaway to a respected professor, who admits he once had an affair with the woman. However, they then discover the killing was copied straight from the pages of a popular fantasy novel written by an Oxford tutor, suggesting the work of a crazed fan - or something even more sinister. • Season 2 Episode 4: The Great and the Good

  Oswald Cooper is the prime suspect in the rape of a teenage girl, but presents an alibi supported by three pillars of the community. When Cooper is murdered, Lewis discovers a web of deceit going back 20 years, in which the dead man was used by the trio to cover up a sordid series of secrets - but the case soon takes on a personal dimension for the inspector. • Season 2 Episode 3: Life Born of Fire

  Will McEwan, a member of the religious group The Garden, commits suicide in the church of the Reverend King, a founding member. It soon transpires Hathaway has personal information about the unfortunate man and was once good friends with him, but denies knowledge of his recent life. When the reverend himself, and two other leading figures in the group are found murdered, evidence points to a serial killer, and Lewis's sergeant seems to be his next target

• Season 2 Episode 2: Music to Die For

  The death of student Jack Roth leads to the shady world of underworld boxing and the involvement of two Oxford dons Richard Helm and RG Cole. Further investigations reveal the dead man to be involved in a love triangle with Sarah Kriel and his best friend Milo Hardy. When Hardy is found dead suicide is suspected, but Lewis is not satisfied with the explanation and discovers an old connection between the girl's mother Ann Kriel and Helm. Cheryl Campbell guests

• Season 2 Episode 1: And the Moonbeams Kiss the Sea

  New series of the detective drama, starring Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox. Lewis and Hathaway investigate the death of a maintenance engineer found shot in the head in the basement of the Bodleian Library. A search of the dead man's house reveals a stash of valuable volumes and a connection to the local gambler's anonymous group, with further probing exposing a scam involving two Oxford academics. However, a meeting with an Oxford law professor prompts a sceptical Lewis and Hathaway to believe something more sinister is afoot - a suspicion confirmed by the death of another woman.   The detective suspects a connection between the death of a student with secret plans for advancement and the killing of well-known criminal Nicky Turnbull, who was in Oxford to speak at the Union. As he and Hathaway attempt to eliminate suspects from a long list of Turnbull's enemies, Lewis' investigation brings him into contact with old flame Diane - who also happens to be the victim's wife.
