    The facially scarred daughter of Lieutenant Van Buren's college friend is found dead and she demands detectives Fontana and Green catch the serial assailant who threw acid in the victim's face months earlier.     A train is derailed after crashing into a vehicle parked on the tracks, killing 11 people. The car driver tells Fontana and Falco he only intended to commit suicide, not murder. McCoy is eager to tackle the case, but his enthusiasm wanes when opposing counsel builds a defence on grounds of insanity and the accused drops a bombshell during his testimony.
