  The characters of 19th-century Lark Rise and Candleford return in a Christmas special heralding a new series. The locals are captivated by a mysterious girl who arrives, ragged and barefoot, and going by the name of Cinderella Doe. She has come in search of Jeremiah Mears, a man no one has heard of. However, it turns out that he died 80 years earlier - and to complicate matters, so did Cinderella. Meanwhile, Dorcas and Emma each want to give Laura the same Christmas gift, opening up an old family wound and leaving the young apprentice postmistress torn between her feuding relatives.
