An unemployed scouser, Danny Kavanagh, thrown from his home because of a gambling addiction, arrives in a small lakeside village to start afresh. Initially things look good for him and he begins a relationship with one of the locals. Kavenagh's idylic lifestyle soon takes a sour twist, however, when suspicion surrounding the brutal murder of three local school girls is sqaurely directed towards him.
