In this special extended introductory episode, artist Peter Rickman is taken to hospital after being involved in a road accident - but while unconscious, he encounters a strange being who has big plans for him. When he awakes, it becomes clear that the knock on the head has changed him, leaving him hearing strange voices, seemingly those of the dead. Meanwhile, psychic fellow patient Mrs Druse has become obsessed with the notion that a tormented spirit is trapped in the building and sets about trying to identify it by holding a seance, incurring the wrath of certain members of staff.
