    Cathy Rogers and Tyler Harcott referee as the Geeks and the Pit Crew are challenged to build floating fire engines in the second semi-final of the series. While one team opts for a design involving a hi-tech displacement pump the other goes for a simpler option, but which method will succeed?

The Sewer Rats from Idaho use a high-speed fan, driven by a motorcycle engine, which forms an industrial-strength vacuum cleaner. The Trash Can Heroes from the West Coast, on the other hand, make a broom from steel cable welded to a drum and driven by a lawnmower engine

    The Rocket Men, a team of Nasa scientists from Houston, Texas, take on the Dukes of Spook from Portland, Oregon, to build an unsinkable power boat that will transport them round a white-water obstacle course.
