He becomes increasingly determined to force the police to open up an enquiry into the death of Rufus Barron, but his zealous approach puts Jo in mortal danger, forcing him to reassess the priorities in his life.   • Season 3 Episode 4: Economic Imperative

    Jo is shocked when a single mother, fighting a lawsuit against the mobile phone company she blames for her incurable cancer, asks her to take care of her son after her death. Presiding in the case, Deed finds himself at the centre of a plot between the phone company and Sir Ian Rochester, both of whom are eager to have him out of the way. Last in series

    Jo prosecutes an MP accused of attempted murder, but Row Colemore suggests the charges are trumped up.     Everard hands down a lenient sentence to a political benefactor accused of running over a mother and her two children. Deed accuses him of corruption, and Monty responds by putting pressure on Jo, ostracising her to the point where she begs her friend to back down. True to form, John continues to push for the result he wants - a tougher sentence - but there may be a price for him to pay

  • Season 3 Episode 1: Health Hazard

    Sir Ian Rochester is infuriated when an interesting case is handed to Deed by new presider Sir Monty Everard, and takes his anger out on Jo. She is forced to cut her ties with John after she is brought before a disciplinary committee on trumped-up charges. However, when the judge arrives unexpectedly at the hearing to plead her case, Rochester is left seething once again as things do not go his way

  • Season 2 Episode 4: Everyone's Child

    A youngster refuses to undergo a life-saving transplant operation, much to the dismay of his parents, who try to overrule him by taking the matter to court - even though he meets all the legal requirements to make his own decision. In a separate case, two drug addicts accused of killing a boy for his mobile phone are found not guilty of murder. Last in series

    While presiding over a murder trial in which a lawyer is representing himself and his younger siblings, Deed rekindles his affair with scheming Francesca Rochester, ignoring his pregnant daughter's pleas for help in the process. Blind to what's happening around him, and resisting warnings from Jo, the judge eventually realises his mistress has been deceiving him and must hope he hasn't left it too late to come to the aid of Charlie and her unborn child.
