Philip is determined to get back to England and hatches an escape plan with the help of Wilf and James, but the day ends in disaster when the three men are arrested and sent to a prison in France. James takes Eugene's parents to the site of their son's execution, but Von Rheingarten throws them off the property before befriending Philip, whom he still believes to be a local gardener

Felicity and James plead with Baron Von Rheingarten to save Eugene from execution, but the German refuses to listen and the young man is taken away to be shot as Philip looks on distraught. Angelique and Bernhardt grow closer after he saves her from a humiliating experience and June is accused of fraternising with the enemy after singing at an impromptu party.
