    It's Christmas Eve 1969 and Gently is enjoying a spot of festive cheer until he gets the news that a bank has hit by armed robbers and he and Bacchus have work to do. The detective's hunt for the gunmen takes him into the world of skinheads and he is later faced with a difficult dilemma. Does the law always have to be so cruel and can he bend it just this once? Detective drama set in the north-east of England, starring Martin Shaw and Lee Ingleby, with a guest appearance by Jody Latham (Shameless)

  • Season 7 Episode 3: Gently Among Friends

    The detective is called out when a body is found on a rubbish pile under the Tyne Bridge. It initially looks like suicide, but evidence reveals the victim was dead before he landed. The search begins to uncover his identity, with just a pawnbroker's receipt, a note with a phone number for one Gwendolyn Howard and a betting slip in the deceased's pocket. Crime drama, guest starring Vic Reeves (aka Vic Reeves)

  • Season 7 Episode 2: Breathe in the Air

    A woman's body is found on the moors, and although it looks like suicide, Gently is convinced it is suspicious - even after finding out the victim had mood swings and suffered from motor neurone disease. She was a GP, estranged from her husband, and it isn't long before he is in the frame, although as the investigation moves to the doctor's home community - the same place where Rachel grew up - a secretive local company provides a new lead. Meanwhile, Bacchus celebrates his promotion, leaving Gently needing a new sergeant. Martin Shaw, Lee Ingleby and Lisa McGrillis star, with Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey) and Jason Done (Waterloo Road)

    I recommend this series as a thoughtful, intelligent and believable drama. Unfortunately, the kind of ethics we see on this show is far from reality. Report abuse
