First of a two-part dramatised documentary revealing the extraordinary story of the talented literary sisters, and shedding fresh light on the personalities of their brother and father. This new interpretation of the writers' lives is based on letters and research by acclaimed biographer Juliet Barker. It attempts to unravel the truth behind the popular view of a family blighted by alcoholism, tragedy and unrequited love. Bramwell is shown to be a gifted poet, while the Rev Patrick Bronte : who is often criticised for his treatment of his daughters : is seen as a loving and humorous man. Narrated by Patricia Routledge and starring Patrick Malahide and Victoria Hamilton
