Conclusion. Despite his reservations, Hornblower is reluctant to dishonour his bride-to-be by leaving her standing at the altar. However, with the ink barely dry on the marriage certificate, a surprise guest at the wedding breakfast despatches the groom to France on a mission to uncover the whereabouts of a missing sloop and its captain, Bracegirdle.
