A celebration of the seminal music movement which flourished in the US and UK during the 1960s, beginning with a profile of John Cage, whose silent piece 4' 33' still causes outrage more than 50 years after its first performance. The work of American minimalists Terry Reilly and Steve Reich is featured alongside compositions by their British counterparts Cornelius Cardew, Gavin Bryars and Michael Nyman, who provided a refreshing contrast to the rigid musical dogmas of Stockhausen and his fellow serialists
