Andrew Davies' adaptation of Anthony Trollope's novel concludes as the Rowleys cross the Alps in a desperate search for Emily's missing husband and son. Their efforts are finally rewarded in Italy with the help of Glascock, but Louis's failing health puts everything at risk. Back in England, trouble brews as the bitter divisions between the French sisters threaten to engulf them, Nora's relationship with Hugh hits rocky ground and Aunt Stanbury presents Dorothy with a heart-breaking choice.
