Fleur finally convinces Soames of the value of her relationship with Jon, and persuades him to visit Irene to share his change of heart : but in a sudden rage he lashes out at his former lover and is attacked by her doting son, throwing the young couple's chances of tying the knot into turmoil once again. Standing firmly by his mother, Jon refuses to see Fleur, who confines herself to her room for days : until a face from the past reappears and finally makes her realise that their paths lie together.
