For the Benefit of Mr Parris, Revisited

Back in 1984, young Tory MP Matthew Parris accepted a challenge from ITV's World in Action to survive for a week on a single man's unemployment benefit in a deprived area of Newcastle, an experience which had a profound impact on his political views. Twenty years on, Parris returns to the same house where he stayed during the Thatcher era, to repeat the experiment and see how the people he met have fared in the intervening decades
