Tiff Needell is in Nice to test-drive the ultimate Mercedes-Benz, the top-of-the-range £120,000 CL65, constructed around a hand-built V12 engine. Spain is Tom Ford's destination as he samples BMW's X3 off-roader, while Adrian Simpson is at Silverstone for a spot of 'drifting' : a form of motor sport in which the idea is to keep the rear tyres spinning through a series of bends. Having started as an illegal activity in Japan in the 1980s, the sport has started to catch on over here
