Life has never been easy for foster girl April, who was discovered in a dustbin as a baby and has been in care ever since. Moving from one place to another, she has never settled and has no sense of who she really is. After a row with her foster mother on the morning of her 14th birthday, she sets out on a journey to learn about her origins. Meanwhile, as her guardian Marion searches desperately for April, she is plagued by doubts about her own abilities as a parent. Drama based on the book by Jacqueline Wilson, starring Dakota Blue Richards - last seen as Lyra in The Golden Compass - Juliet Stevenson, David Haig and featuring newcomer Lizzy Clark
