• Season 30 Episode 6: The Doctor's Daughter

  The Time Lord faces an intense personal struggle when he crosses paths with an enigmatic young woman in the middle of an endless war on the distant planet Messaline. Meanwhile, the ruthless General Cobb threatens genocide, and Martha is kidnapped by the Hath. Guest starring Georgia Moffett, the real-life daughter of Peter Davison, the Doctor's fifth incarnation

• Season 30 Episode 5: The Poison Sky

  Part two of two. The Sontarans activate their masterplan and begin to choke the planet, while Unit are left defenceless, with a traitor in their ranks. • Season 30 Episode 4: The Sontaran Stratagem

  Part one of two. Former sidekick Martha Jones summons the Time Lord back to modern-day Earth, where an old enemy lies in wait. • Season 30 Episode 3: Planet of the Ood

  The Time Lord takes Donna far into the future, visiting her first alien world. The duo discover shocking truths about the human race while on the planet Ood-Sphere, as the enslaved inhabitants struggle for survival. Tim McInnerny guest stars alongside David Tennant and Catherine Tate

• Season 30 Episode 2: The Fires of Pompeii

  Donna and the Doctor face their greatest challenge yet as they find out whether established history can be changed. Finding themselves in 79AD, the time-travellers discover psychic powers and beasts of stone running riot in the streets of old Pompeii. Peter Capaldi, Phil Davis and Tracey Childs guest star

• Season 30 Episode 1: Partners in Crime

  David Tennant returns for a new series of time-travelling adventures - and with Martha Jones having vacated the Tardis at the end of the last series, he's in need of a new partner. Enter Catherine Tate, reprising her role as runaway bride Donna from the 2006 Christmas special, who comes in search of her Doctor when a new alien threat appears in the form of villainous Miss Foster (Sarah Lancashire)

• Season 29 Episode 13: Last of the Time Lords

  Conclusion. The entire human race has submitted to slavery, with the Doctor a helpless captive, meaning Martha Jones faces her biggest challenge yet as she attempts to save the world and free the Time Lord from the evil clutches of the Master. Last in the current series of the sci-fi adventure, guest starring John Simm with David Tennant and Freema Agyeman

• Season 29 Episode 11: Utopia

• Season 29 Episode 7: 42

  The Doctor and Martha face a desperate race against time to save the crew of a spaceship that is on course to hit the sun. The pair have only 42 minutes to prevent a collision - and their task is made even more difficult by crew members who have been possessed by a mysterious force and a gang of saboteurs. Former EastEnders actress Michelle Collins and ex-Hollyoaks star Elize du Toit appear alongside David Tennant and Freema Agyeman

• Season 29 Episode 6: The Lazarus Experiment

  The Doctor takes Martha back to present-day Earth so she can catch up with her family. However, the pair soon find themselves thrown into a battle to save them from a mysterious scientist who claims to have developed an anti-ageing device. Guest starring The League of Gentleman's Mark Gatiss and former Coronation Street and dinnerladies actress Thelma Barlow

• Season 29 Episode 5: Evolution of the Daleks

  Part two of two. Dalek Sec is reborn in human form and attempts to build an empire in Thirties New York. The Doctor feels he has no choice but to form an unholy alliance to permanently alter the history of his oldest enemies, while Martha battles for survival on top of the Empire State Building.   Part one of two. The Doctor investigates disappearances in New York at the height of the Depression in the 1930s. • Season 29 Episode 3: Gridlock

  The Doctor decides to show Martha what the future has in store by taking her to New Earth, the same planet where he and Rose fought zombie patients in a hospital on his last visit. • Season 29 Episode 1: Smith and Jones

  A medical student's life takes a dramatic turn when the hospital she works in is transported to the moon, plunging her into a battle with a clan of stormtroopers called the Judoon and a first meeting with the Doctor. David Tennant returns as the time traveller, with Freema Agyeman as his new companion, Martha Jones

  Part two of two. The human race is caught in the middle of an interplanetary war, as two mighty alien armies battle it out across the Earth and a terrifying new threat emerges from Torchwood Tower.   Part one of two. The Doctor and Rose investigate the mysterious Torchwood Tower as ghosts begin to rise from their graves and return to their former homes. • Season 28 Episode 10: Love and Monsters

• Season 28 Episode 9: The Satan Pit

  Part two of two. Rose battles against the nightmarish Ood as the planet stands on the brink of being sucked into the black hole. The Doctor's beliefs are challenged as he faces the mysterious occupant of the Pit, a primordial force that poses a threat to the entire universe

• Season 28 Episode 5: Rise of the Cybermen

  In the first of a two-part adventure, the time travellers return to the present day to find history has been altered and the world they knew has been changed beyond recognition. While Rose is amazed to learn her father is still alive in this alternative reality, the Doctor discovers some of his deadliest foes, the Cybermen, are poised to take over the world. • Season 28 Episode 4: The Girl in the Fireplace

  Madame de Pompadour, the official mistress of King Louis XV, has been haunted by recurring dreams of the Doctor since childhood. When the King's palace comes under attack from sinister clockwork robots, she attempts to summon him in an effort to protect its inhabitants from the mechanical killers. Sophia Myles guest stars alongside David Tennant and Billie Piper

• Season 28 Episode 3: School Reunion

  As the Doctor investigates reports of strange creatures haunting a London school, he encounters an old friend - and her faithful robot companion. Meanwhile, Rose learns a few harsh truths from her predecessor about travelling with a Time Lord. Anthony Head guest stars, and Elisabeth Sladen, who accompanied Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker's Doctors in the 1970s, reprises her role as journalist Sarah Jane Smith

• Season 28 Episode 2: Tooth and Claw

  The Doctor and Rose travel back to 19th-century Scotland, where they encounter Queen Victoria (Pauline Collins) and discover the sinister plot of an order of warrior monks. Meanwhile, local legends of a werewolf prowling the Highlands turn out to be more fact than fiction. Starring David Tennant

• Season 28 Episode 1: New Earth

  The Doctor and Rose travel to an alien world in the far future, where mankind has settled after the destruction of Earth. On arrival, they discover a luxury hospital conceals sinister secrets, and an old enemy they thought dead is plotting revenge.   The Doctor's friendship with Rose is put to the ultimate test as the Earth is plunged into all-out war, forcing him to take desperate measures to save humanity from annihilation. • Season 27 Episode 12: Bad Wolf

  The Doctor, Rose and Jack fight for their lives on board Satellite 5, renamed the Game Station by the Bad Wolf Corporation, little suspecting a more sinister threat is lurking in the shadows that could spell the end for the human race. First in a two-part tale, starring Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper, with guest voice-overs by Anne Robinson, Davina McCall, Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine

• Season 27 Episode 11: Boom Town

  The Doctor and his companions visit Cardiff, where he encounters an old enemy he thought long dead. It turns out that a scheme to build a new power station conceals an alien plot that threatens to destroy the entire world. Starring Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper

• Season 27 Episode 10: The Doctor Dances

  Part two of two. As the Child's plague spreads and London is over-run by an army of zombies, the Doctor and Rose join forces with intergalactic con-man Captain Jack in a bid to save the world. • Season 27 Episode 9: The Empty Child

  The time-travelling duo land in London in 1941, at the height of the Blitz, and discover the city's homeless children are being terrorised by a ghostly youngster. To add to the mystery, the Army are guarding a peculiar cylinder - and a dashing officer soon threatens the Doctor's hero status in Rose's eyes.   Christopher Eccleston's first adventure as the time-travelling crusader in the classic sci-fi series. The Doctor lands on Earth just in time to save department store worker Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) from a horde of marauding mannequins - plunging the pair into a desperate battle against a malevolent alien intelligence with the ability to bring plastic to life

• Special Episode 2008: The Next Doctor

  The Time Lord travels back to Victorian England, where he suffers a strange case of deja vu when he encounters a man who calls himself the Doctor, brandishes a sonic screwdriver and travels with a cockney companion named Rosita. But they are not the only familiar characters, as he discovers when the dreaded Cybermen turn up. Christmas special from 2008, starring David Tennant, with guest appearances by David Morrissey, Dervla Kirwan and Velile Tshabalala of Tittybangbang fame

• Special Episode 2007: Voyage of the Damned

  Following the previous two Christmas specials, expectations are high for this third festive offering from the revamped sci-fi series - especially as Kylie Minogue is guest starring. It picks up where the last episode of series three left off, with the Titanic crashing through the Tardis wall, and although other plot details are being kept under wraps, it is known that the Aussie pop princess will be playing a waitress on the ill-fated liner. Could she and the Time Lord be about to do what neither Kate Winslet nor Leonardo Di Caprio could manage, and save the doomed liner? One thing that is certain is that the Doctor will have to do it all without the help of Martha Jones. She temporarily left the time traveller's side earlier this year, clearing the way for Catherine Tate to become the Doctor's sidekick in next year's series, reprising her role as Donna, the runaway bride from 2006's seasonal episode. Geoffrey Palmer, Bernard Cribbins and George Costigan also co-star

• Special Episode 2006: The Runaway Bride

  Must-see sci-fi fun as David Tennant returns for his second festive outing as the time-bending traveller - but sadly without sidekick Billie Piper, who was parted from the Doctor at the end of the last series and is now moping around in a parallel universe. It's already been announced that Freema Agyeman will be taking her place as the Doctor's new companion, but that's not until the new series in April. For now - as anyone who saw the closing seconds of the last episode will know - the Doctor has yet another lady in tow, none other than comedienne Catherine Tate. She plays Donna, a bride-to-be who's running late for her wedding, and has somehow materialised on board the Tardis. This results in a race to get her to the church on time - but when the mysterious Empress of Racnoss (Cutting It's Sarah Parish) joins the chase, it becomes clear Donna is the key to an ancient alien plan to destroy the Earth

• Special Episode 2005: The Christmas Invasion

  The Doctor takes Rose home for the festive season, but the regeneration process has tired him out and he ends up falling unconscious - just as the planet comes under threat from evil alien race the Sycorax, who have employed sinister Santas and murderous trees to do their bidding. Christmas special from 2005, featuring David Tennant's first outing as the Time Lord, with Billie Piper and Penelope Wilton

• Planet of the Dead

  When a London bus takes a detour to an alien world, the Doctor has to join forces with the extraordinary Lady Christina de Souza. But the mysterious planet holds terrifying secrets hidden in the sand - and time is running out as the deadly Swarm gets closer. David Tennant stars in the first of four special episodes leading up to his departure from the role at Christmas. With Michelle Ryan and Lee Evans

• The Waters of Mars

  One-off special. The Time Lord is caught in a terrifying situation when he visits one of the fixed points in time and space, the disaster that hit Bowie Base One on Mars in 2059. As he tries to come to terms with the prophecy that his present incarnation is soon to die, he starts to consider the possibility of altering the fundamental rules of time and space - with the support of strong-minded commander Adelaide. Starring David Tennant, with Lindsay Duncan and Peter O'Brien

• Army of Ghosts; Doomsday

  The human race rejoices as the ghosts of loved ones return home but as the Doctor, Rose and Jackie investigate Torchwood Tower modern-day Earth threatens to fall.

• Silence in the Library; Forest of the Dead

  The Doctor and Donna must uncover the truth behind the Nodes and the Data Ghost to uncover the library's secret; as the shadows rise, the Doctor forges an alliance with the mysterious River Song.

• The Sontaran Stratagem; The Poison Sky

  Sontaran warriors set their sights on the Earth and its inhabitants; as poison gas suffocates the Earth's population, the Doctor and UNIT team members work to eliminate the threat.
