Part one of two. Star-studded adaptation of the Dickens classic, with Emilia Fox, Pauline Quirke and Daniel Radcliffe, (better known as Harry Potter) as the eponymous hero. David enjoys an idyllic childhood until his widowed mother enters a violent marriage and dies shortly after giving birth to her second child. Ending all hopes of an education, his cruel stepfather sends him to work in a London factory, but the plucky lad runs away and begins the arduous journey to his aunt Betsey's in Dover - in the hope of finding a home at last.
