  The series ends on a note of high drama as Tate prepares to cover his tracks by killing the boys, but has a last-minute attack of conscience and decides to help them escape. Hatton and Gully get their just deserts in the ensuing melee, but Sweeney proves more slippery and attempts to flee the country by plane. Unfortunately, her lover DS Gary Tate is being watched by Sweeney's henchmen Hatton and Gully, who cannot believe their luck. Pausing only to give the boys a good pummelling, they bundle them into a van and drive off into the country, gleefully congratulating themselves on a job well done
