An associate curator at the New York History Museum is killed by a falling stone gargoyle. Beckett discovers that the victim had recently returned from an archaeological expedition to the tomb of a Mayan king and that two other members of the party had died during the dig. Castle opens the sarcophagus, only to be told there is a curse on those who look at the mummy - leading him to believe he could be the next victim
