Synopsis:

Investigating the nation's most extreme weather conditions, beginning with a look at flooding - made before the recent deluge to destroy parts of the UK. The programme focuses on the devastation caused in Boscastle in August 2004, when more than 100 people were airlifted to safety. Professor Nick Middleton asks whether the Thames' seven-metre-high gates will provide sufficient protection in future years and considers the consequences of London suffering the same fate as New Orleans
