Bike Squad

Comedy drama from Drop the Dead Donkey writer Guy Jenkin, starring Phil Davies as Chief Inspector Albert Custer, the brains behind a new cycle cop scheme, which was supposedly created to help officers build relations with the public and respond quickly to emergencies. However, when the decidedly unfit Sergeant John Rook (The Full Monty's Mark Addy) and opinionated PC Kate McFay (Shameless star Maxine Peake) are reluctantly signed up, it doesn't take them long to realise Custer is actually using the unit as a form of punishment designed to drive awkward cops to resign. At first, the mismatched duo are reluctant to carry out their new duties or work with each other, but when Kate discovers the cause of John's recent bad behaviour, she feels obliged to step in and help out. As the duo begin to bond, they realise the best way to get their revenge on their scheming boss is to make the Bike Squad a resounding success - but with the unit seemingly set up to fail, winning over the community and their fellow coppers is going to require a lot of pedal power
