Synopsis:
Dennis Potter's play examining events in a 19th-century nonconformist community following a girl's murder. Unable to conceive the killer could live among them, the villagers are keen to look for a suitable scapegoat and the finger of suspicion is quickly pointed at a travelling Italian showman and his bear.
