The winner of the prestigious non-fiction prize is announced at London's Savoy Hotel. The seven books in contention are Gulag: A History of the Soviet Camps by Anne Applebaum, John Clare: A Biography by Jonathan Bate, A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson, Stasiland: Stories from Behind the Berlin Wall by Anna Funder, The Zanzibar Chest: A Memoir of Love and War by Aidan Hartley and Rubicon: The Triumph and Tragedy of the Roman Republic by Tom Holland. Featuring film vignettes exploring the shortlisted books and interviews with judges Michael Wood, Aminatta Forna, Martha Kearney, Simon Singh and Francis Wheen before the result is announced and the £30,000 cheque is handed over
