Ashes to Ashes: Season 2 (2009)

• Season 2 Episode 8: EPISODE: 8

  Gene learns crooked cops are going to interrupt a bullion robbery and steal the gold for themselves - a discovery that gives him the chance to root out corruption in the force once and for all. Meanwhile, the arrival of an attractive woman highlights the cracks in his relationship with Alex, who is making him doubt her trustworthiness as she becomes more certain her future life is about to end

  The discovery of a concrete-encased body at a Docklands building site leads to conflict between DCI Hunt and the location's owner. Investigations are further hampered by the disappearance of crucial evidence, an incident that points to a mole in the detective's own team. Meanwhile, Alex discovers that her fascination with the case is distracting her from returning home

  A murder victim is discovered in the canal, and Gene soon has his prime suspect when it turns out the dead man was mixed up with local loan shark Trevor Riley. In his search for incriminating evidence, Gene and the team resort to old-school policing - breaking into Riley's office after hours - but what they find takes the case in a completely different direction.   Alex investigates a burglary and assault at the home of her future in-laws - a case that brings her face to face with 14-year-old Peter Drake, who will grow up to be her husband and Molly's father. Gene's initial lack of interest in the case ends when the fingerprints of a supposedly dead gangster are found at the scene of the crime and he seizes the opportunity to get more positive headlines for the Met.   Gene gets a blast from the past with a visit from Jackie Queen, a journalist from Manchester, who announces to the shocked superintendent she is pregnant with his baby. She is also investigating the disappearance of teenagers suspected of running away to London so the team launches an investigation and a suspect is quickly identified. However, it soon becomes clear the man is being protected by someone within the Met. John Bowe and Ruth Millar guest star

  After a 10-year-old girl is injured in a petrol bomb attack by animal rights activists, an outraged Gene takes Alex to interview a veteran campaigner in jail. Though the prisoner is weak and incoherent after going on hunger strike, Alex is convinced he not only has details of planned attacks - he may also know about her own situation and be able to help her get home. • Season 2 Episode 2: EPISODE: 2

  When a car chase ends with a fatal crash, Gene is accused of causing death by dangerous driving, and to make matters worse the dead man is a member of a vocal Romany community. While Alex fights to prove his innocence, she becomes concerned that Hunt is being led into corruption by Supermac, who has introduced him to the Masons, and starts to doubt her mysterious stalker's offer of a way home

  The death of a policeman in a Soho strip club introduces Gene and the team to their new boss, the legendary detective 'Super Mac'. After months of silence, Alex again starts receiving flashes from the present - as well as the attentions of a mysterious admirer. • Season 1 Episode 8: EPISODE: 8

  Alex realises there are just 24 hours until her parents die in a car bombing and chooses a horrified Ray to help her save them. Amid the chaos of a Gay Pride march, she arrests Tim and Caroline in the hope of keeping them safe, but with Lord Scarman due to visit the station a nervous Gene releases all the prisoners, aiming to make a good impression.   A charity fund-raiser who has travelled the country in a bath of baked beans is shot in a robbery, but his obsessive compulsive disorder gets on Gene's nerves, causing the DCI to beat a confession out of anyone who gets in his way. After the Clown warns Alex someone is going to die, she worries about Hunt's strong-arm tactics - and fights to keep control of the case. Matthew Macfadyen guest stars

• Season 1 Episode 6: EPISODE: 6

  Gene questions an old adversary about a robbery, and when it is revealed the crook has had to give up his life of crime, the detective worries that he too might be past his best.   The team set out to prevent a gangster's firearms deal, an act that Alex believes will prevent her being shot in 2008. To obtain evidence, they have to bring the suspect's boyfriend on side, taking him to a gay club where he can see his lover is not the man he thinks he is.   Gene comes up against a socialist feminist group when a man's death he initially treated as suicide becomes the subject of a murder inquiry. Chris uses the arrest of every member as an opportunity to impress Shaz with his knowledge of women's issues, while Ray dates a communist. An intriguing code found by Alex and deciphered by the desk sergeant leads the team closer to the truth

• Season 1 Episode 3: EPISODE: 3

  An alleged sexual assault requires delicate handling. The boat where the attack took place belongs to a friend of the Commissioner, forcing the detectives to go undercover at a fancy dress party as they attempt to arrest their suspect. With only circumstantial evidence and a victim of unreliable character, Ray surprises his colleagues by proving he has a gentler side, gaining the confidence of a young witness

  DCI Hunt is determined nothing will spoil Diana Spencer's wedding to Prince Charles, and so sets out to prevent an explosive protest getting out of hand. When it seems Thatcherite playboy Danny is in danger, Alex is assigned to look after him - but after a speedy ride in a DeLorean leaves her in no fit state for work, Gene and Ray set out to crack the case.
