  • Season 2 Episode 8: EPISODE: 8

    Gene learns crooked cops are going to interrupt a bullion robbery and steal the gold for themselves - a discovery that gives him the chance to root out corruption in the force once and for all. Meanwhile, the arrival of an attractive woman highlights the cracks in his relationship with Alex, who is making him doubt her trustworthiness as she becomes more certain her future life is about to end

    The discovery of a concrete-encased body at a Docklands building site leads to conflict between DCI Hunt and the location's owner. Though the prisoner is weak and incoherent after going on hunger strike, Alex is convinced he not only has details of planned attacks - he may also know about her own situation and be able to help her get home.     When a car chase ends with a fatal crash, Gene is accused of causing death by dangerous driving, and to make matters worse the dead man is a member of a vocal Romany community. While Alex fights to prove his innocence, she becomes concerned that Hunt is being led into corruption by Supermac, who has introduced him to the Masons, and starts to doubt her mysterious stalker's offer of a way home

    Alex realises there are just 24 hours until her parents die in a car bombing and chooses a horrified Ray to help her save them. Amid the chaos of a Gay Pride march, she arrests Tim and Caroline in the hope of keeping them safe, but with Lord Scarman due to visit the station a nervous Gene releases all the prisoners, aiming to make a good impression.     A charity fund-raiser who has travelled the country in a bath of baked beans is shot in a robbery, but his obsessive compulsive disorder gets on Gene's nerves, causing the DCI to beat a confession out of anyone who gets in his way. After the Clown warns Alex someone is going to die, she worries about Hunt's strong-arm tactics - and fights to keep control of the case. Matthew Macfadyen guest stars

    Gene questions an old adversary about a robbery, and when it is revealed the crook has had to give up his life of crime, the detective worries that he too might be past his best.     The team set out to prevent a gangster's firearms deal, an act that Alex believes will prevent her being shot in 2008. An intriguing code found by Alex and deciphered by the desk sergeant leads the team closer to the truth

    An alleged sexual assault requires delicate handling. The boat where the attack took place belongs to a friend of the Commissioner, forcing the detectives to go undercover at a fancy dress party as they attempt to arrest their suspect. With only circumstantial evidence and a victim of unreliable character, Ray surprises his colleagues by proving he has a gentler side, gaining the confidence of a young witness
