Afterlife: Season 2 (2006 - 2007)

• Season 2 Episode 8: A Name Written in Water

  Alison launches a frantic search for Robert after being shocked by a terrifying vision of him. She eventually bumps into Barbara, who fills her in on the lecturer's condition and reveals he has been admitted to intensive care. Sitting at his bedside, the medium detects the spirit of a nurse whose lover died in agony - and who has haunted the hospital ever since. • Season 2 Episode 7: Things Forgotten

  Alison investigates when a teenager who has been haunted by visions of a young boy claims the psychic he has been visiting is an impostor, but finds herself unable to connect with the spirit world. While Robert reassures his colleague she still can use her insight into human emotions for the benefit of others, he struggles to find the right moment to tell her the news about his failing health

• Season 2 Episode 6: Mind the Bugs Don't Bite

  As Alison gives in to the madness induced by her mother's spirit, Robert tracks down the medium's estranged father, hoping he will provide an explanation for his daughter's haunting. The trio spend a stormy night dissecting the secrets of the past - leading to revelations about Alison's childhood and how her mother died. • Season 2 Episode 5: Mirrorball

  Alison attempts to intervene when the ghost of a man who killed a student starts to haunt the dead girl's best friend - who clearly knows more about the spirit than she is letting on. As the medium becomes more erratic, Robert starts to fear his friend will end up the same way as her mother, but fails to convince Alison to talk about her increasingly odd behaviour. • Season 2 Episode 4: Your Hand in Mine

  Alison investigates when a bride-to-be starts exhibiting symptoms of the disease that killed her husband's first wife, and realises she is possessed by the dead woman's spirit. Unaware of Robert's illness, the medium struggles to understand his sudden scepticism as they argue over the best way to deal with the situation. Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln star

• Season 2 Episode 3: Lullaby

  Alison is contacted by a father who has heard a voice whispering to his infant son through the baby monitor, as she struggles to deal with being haunted by her own mother's spirit. The child's mother refuses to heed the medium's warning to leave the house and becomes convinced her husband is going mad. Robert confronts his long-buried feelings for Jude - before receiving some shocking news

  Alison and Robert investigate a series of suicides in a prison, where murderer Ian Garland claims an evil spirit urged him to commit multiple crimes. The medium is soon convinced the ghost is responsible for the deaths and tries to exorcise it - but endures terrifying visions of the killer's victims in the process.   New series of the supernatural drama, starring Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln. Alison is recovering from the traumatic seance that saw her inhabited by the ghost of Robert's son, and realises she has to dedicate her life to helping spirits. • Season 1 Episode 6: The 7.59 Club

  Alison is contacted by the survivors of the train crash that nearly killed her six years ago. They ask her to lead them in a seance, in an effort to contact the spirits of those they lost in the disaster, leaving her terrified at the thought of reliving her trauma. Robert accompanies her to the meeting - and neither of them is prepared for the shocking events that follow. Last in series, guest starring Phyllida Law

• Season 1 Episode 5: Sleeping with the Dead

  Alison is contacted by a petrified woman who claims to be living in a haunted flat - where the psychic soon experiences a horrifying vision of a man suffocating his wife. The incident arouses Robert's curiosity, prompting him to join the pair for a night at the apartment, testing his scepticism in the process. Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln star

• Season 1 Episode 4: Misdirection

  Alison starts work at a care home for the elderly, hoping to regain some normality - though she soon realises she's been guided there by Robert's son Josh. She meets a fellow nurse and discovers he is being haunted by visions of a former patient who committed suicide when he refused to help her die.   Robert and Alison visit a psychiatric unit, where they meet a twentysomething man who has been there ever since a horrifying attack on his girlfriend. It soon becomes clear he's a schizophrenic - but what's less obvious is the best way to treat him, with Alison believing the more he is drugged by the well-meaning doctors, the more vulnerable he becomes to the malevolent spirit of his psychotic alter-ego.
