Gothic ghost story set in a Victorian prison, based on the book by Sarah Waters. Margaret Prior volunteers as a visitor to the female inmates of Millbank, one of London's most notorious prisons. Here she becomes fascinated by Selina, an enigmatic spiritualist serving time for the assault of a young girl through a malevolent spirit during a seance. Sceptical of Selina's gifts, but believing her innocent, Margaret befriends the woman, and soon Selina is awakening feelings in her she has been struggling to suppress. Then things start to happen which suggest Selina may be telling the truth about her abilities to communicate with and command the dead.
