Vincent Price is at his chilling best in this effective horror, playing 17th-century lawyer Matthew Hopkins. He callously destroys lives while serving as a witch-hunter, using ruthless methods which earn him a terrifying reputation. However, he meets his match in a courageous, vengeful soldier. An accomplished final work from director Michael Reeves, who died shortly after the film was completed, aged just 25. Ian Ogilvy and Rupert Davies co-star. Part of the Summer of British Film season
