Movie (1953)
Byron Haskin's outstanding adaptation of HG Wells' classic novel telling the story of Martians who descend on Earth. The film updates the Victorian setting of the original novel in favour of a contemporary 1950s setting. A meteor strike in southern California turns out to be the vanguard of an alien invasion, as a force of deadly, indestructible war machines emerge to wipe the human race from the face of the Earth.
