Henry Fonda stars as an intellectual who sets out to assassinate Napoleon in a bid to avenge the misery caused to the unrequited love of his life by the emperor's destruction of Russia. King Vidor's typically spectacular and epic adaptation of the classic novel by Tolstoy suffers due to miscasting, but the big name stars involved, including Audrey Hepburn, John Mills, Herbert Lom and Mel Ferrer, do their best
